What do I need before travelling?

What you need before you go

Environmental Management Charge

  • ·Most reef tours include a mandatory 'reef tax' of around $6.50 AUD per person, which goes directly toward the conservation and management of the marine park.

Boat and Air Transfers

  • ·Movement between islands and the outer reef is primarily via high-speed catamaran, while scenic flights and seaplanes offer faster, more expensive transit options.

Stinger Season Awareness

  • ·From November to May, box jellyfish and Irukandji may be present. Always wear a protective lycra 'stinger suit' provided by tour operators when swimming.

Offshore Connectivity

  • ·Expect limited to no mobile reception on the outer reef. Most tour boats do not offer Wi-Fi, making it a true 'off-the-grid' experience once you leave the coast.
